A transcript of a recorded conversation between Janine Papp, Gregg Foreman of Delta 72, and Elliot Smith on September 17, 1997.

Note: Elliott Smith refuses to be interviewed. However, if I happen to be standing around with a tape recorder and stumble onto a conversation with him, I consider if fair game to print it. Can I now say I have an exclusive interview???

Gregg: Hey....
Janine: You're following me!
Elliot: No, I'm not following you... I'm sorry.
Janine: I'm only kidding!
Gregg: You didn't even say hello!
Elliot: What's that mean? I tried to say hello, I came up to the front of the stage, and you were gone. I didn't see you. That was the best thing I've seen in quite some time.
Gregg: Really?
Elliot: I got in a scuffle. I hurt my back.
Gregg: I heard. Someone was like, what happened to Elliot? I thought you were going to have a big black eye or something. I have to get your new record sometime, man. All I have is the first one and I made a copy of it on tape to listen to on tour.
Elliot: They're all the same.
Gregg: No, I heard the new one's better.
Elliot: No, it's all the same stuff. You're not missing anything, don't worry.
Janine: He's going to have a really good cello player on the next record.
Gregg: Well, if you ever need any slide guitar or harmonica...
Elliot: If you ever need some vocals...
Gregg: Really?
Elliot: Yeah, I'm gonna go home... good show.
Gregg: I can't believe you liked the show, but I'm glad you did.
